2021 -22 NWLSD Progress Update

 
The Northwest Local School District is pleased to share highlights from its 2021-22 Local Report Card with the community. The Ohio Department of Education plans to release report cards to the public on Thursday, September 15th.


Achievement Component:  
This component represents whether student performance on state tests met established thresholds and how well students performed on tests overall. A 2-star rating indicates that NWLSD needs continued support to meet state standards in academic achievement.
  • NWLSD’s Performance Index increased from 60.2 to 71.9
  • 1,153 tests were scored at the Advanced Level (9.1%)
  • 1,695 tests were scored at the Accomplished Level (13.4%)
  • Every building showed an increase in Performance Index from 2020-21 to 2021-22!


Progress Component:  
This component looks closely at the growth all students are making based on their past performances on state tests. A 3-star rating indicates that there was evidence that NWLSD met student growth expectations. Our goal is to obtain a 4-star rating by the end of the 2023-24 school year which would indicate that there was significant evidence that the District exceeded student growth expectations.


Gap Closing Component:This component measures the reduction in education gaps for various groups of students. A 4-star rating indicates that NWLSD exceeded state standards in closing educational gaps.
  • NWLSD exceeded the State’s performance index target for the following groups of students in Language Arts and Math:
    • Black/Non-Hispanic
    • Economically Disadvantaged
    • English Learner
    • Hispanic
    • Multi-Racial
  • NWLSD exceeded growth expectations (Value Added Gain Index) for Students with Disabilities in Math (Value Added Gain Index +3.64)
  • Colerain Elementary, Colerain Middle School and Colerain High School exceeded growth expectations for All Students in Math
  • Pleasant Run Elementary and Colerain High School exceeded growth expectations for All Students in English Language Arts


Graduation Rate Component: This component looks at the four-year graduation rate for the Class of 2021 and the five-year graduation rate for the Class of 2020. A 4-star rating indicates that NWLSD exceeded state standards for graduation rate.
  • District 4-year graduation rate was 93.5%
    • CHS 4-year graduation rate was 93.9%
    • NWHS 4-year graduation rate was 92.7%
 

Early Literacy Component: This component measures reading improvement and proficiency for students in kindergarten through third grade. A 2-star rating indicates that NWLSD needs continued support to meet state standards in early literacy (K-3). 
  • Monfort Heights Elementary earned a 4-star rating on this measure
 
College, Career, Workforce and Military Readiness:
This component looks at how well prepared NWLSD students are for future opportunities, whether training in a technical field or preparing for work or college. This component will not receive a rating until 2025. Data displayed is for the graduating class of 2021.
  • 74 students earned Honors Diplomas
  • 69 students earned 12 or more points on Industry Credential or State Licensure Exams
  • 42 students earned 12 or more college credits while still in high school
 


Overall Rating: Districts and schools will not receive an overall star rating this year.

The NWLSD would also like to share the following additional financial and enrollment information with our community based on the 2021-22 school year:
 
Financial Detail:
 
  • NWLSD spends approximately $1,400 less per pupil than other Ohio public districts
  • NWLSD is among the bottom 20% of districts in terms of operating expenses per pupil
  • NWLSD spends 72.9% of its funds on Classroom Instruction (increase from FY21)
 
 
Enrollment Detail:
  • NWLSD enrollment stabilized in FY22
  • Comparable districts showed continuing enrollment declines 
 
  • NWLSD is seeing a steady increase in English Learners 
    • 334 in 2017-18 to 518 in 2021-2022
  • NWLSD had 1,441 students with identified disabilities in 2021-22
  • NWLSD saw a significant increase in the percentage of students who were chronically absent during the pandemic
